Our latest trip to ”Meet The Grower” in Tasmania with chef Massimo Mele and friends was a huge success.

We can not wait to share our video series of last weeks adventure to Tasmania. Luke and the team covered all things potato, blueberry, herbs and avocado.

Meet The Grower is back.

We will be focusing on local NSW growers in the upcoming months and into 2019. Luke and Ross from Sydney Direct Fresh Produce went on a short trip to Grima’s Farm Fresh Produce to personally pick and collect radishes for one of our customers.

Not only do we go above and beyond to get what our customers want, but we also support our local farmers in the process.

Meet The Grower brings you Kathleen Haven, a specialist persimmon orchard, that is nestled in the picturesque Cobbitty village some 35kms south of Sydney in NSW. This third generation family farm is run by Brett and Kate Guthrey assisted by their sons. Their passion for food and love of the land led them to developing and specialising in this incredible fruit. Brett’s grandfather , Harry Wright and uncle David Wright planted the first persimmons in Kathleen Haven’s soil over 30 years ago.

Every year we take a group of our customers on an educational day trip to meet Jayson Mesman. The owner of The Truffle Farm in Canberra. 

This year we found out what makes Truffles so unique, how to tell a good Truffle from a bad one and all the ways to cook with them.

We finished off with a stunning lunch matched with wines by the very talented Damian Brabender, head chef and owner of Otis Dining Hall.

On the 1st June we proudly supported the sixth JRM hospitality social series dinner. We came together with The Truffle Farm Canberra and the Urban Winery Sydney to bring our customers, industry leaders and sydney foodies together. 

It was a night that celebrated the start of the Truffle season, stunning food and wine.

As part of our "Meet The Grower" series, we will be having a look at what some of our customers are doing with seasonal produce. 

First up is the Executive chef of Jonah's Restaurant & Boutique Hotel, Whale Beach. Matteo Zamboni using Tomatillos from our good friends at Austchilli.

Tomatillos are like a gift. Tart green fruit that's sometimes confused with an unripe tomato, wrapped in a crinkly husk. Peel the wrapping away and you're left with a world of possibility.

Our annual SDFP pine mushroom trip was a huge success this year except for there being no Pine Mushrooms, the weather this year has been dry and not the best for the season. 

On the other hand, It enabled us to get to know our customers that little bit more, allow chefs to interact with one another, hear Diego’s aka (The Weedy One) stories, team up and make a memorable experience. Thank you to everyone who joined us.

We took some of our SDFP customers on our annual educational forage of the iconic walk from Bondi to Clovelly. We Kicked off with a breakfast at Drake Eatery Bondi Beach and then began our walk in search of edible herbs, leaves and flowers with the passionate Diego Bonetto aka "The Weedy One". He gave us so many interesting facts and wisdom.

It was a real pleasure to take our chef customers out for the day to relax, enjoy the ocean, eat good food and be educated about the hidden food gems that surround us.
