Our founder and managing director, Luke Kohler goes back to when it all started in this episode of the Roots Podcast.
From the ripe old age of 16, Luke has been driven by a passion for high-quality food and genuine, personable service.
It all started when he and his brother saw an opportunity in a little local fruit and veg shop in the western suburbs of Sydney. Luke worked in the shop before and after school getting to know the world of grocery service. But he was keen and hungry for more.
Luke’s mission was underway; To source, the highest quality produce for chefs across New South Wales, and to make a better life for his family. He began searching for ways to get organic fruit and veg straight from the grower into kitchens, taking the hassle off the hands of business owners.
Small beginnings quickly grew into a powerhouse business that now delivers anywhere from Newcastle to the Blue Mountains and down to Canberra.
Direct from Farm to Kitchen to Plate
When Sydney Direct Fresh Produce began to sprout and grow, the hospitality industry breathed a sigh of relief. Chefs and restaurant owners now had a middleman to connect them directly with the growers of the produce they really craved. And Luke’s passion and exuberance was infectious.
In a world that craves everything organic, Luke made it his mission to help chefs and restaurants get the best gourmet produce direct from the farm into their kitchens.
For Luke, it’s all about keeping it hands-on. Whether it’s getting on the farm and feeling the produce in his hands or connecting with chefs and restaurant owners and having a good old chat. Luke and his team do whatever it takes to get the food people want, from where they want it and when they need it.
